Career & Technical Education

Career & Technical Education (CTE) in Illinois is a critical educational component of the workforce development system that provides comprehensive career awareness, exploration and planning, relevant workplace skills, and career specific preparation. 

CTE provides an educated and skilled workforce and provides a foundation for Illinois' economic development system.

CTE Programs:
  • Teach technical skills based on industry standards. 
  • Teach workplace skills including teamwork, problem solving, dependability, productivity, and employability skills common to all occupations. 
  • Teach rigorous and relevant academic skills aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards in the context of real-world problems. 
  • Prepare students to transition into post-secondary education and the workplace. 
  • Provide students the skills necessary to succeed in the technological world of the 21st century. 
  • Provide comprehensive career development to prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities. 
  • Measure student outcomes via nationally recognized accountability systems. 
  • Provide an avenue for students to obtain college credit while in high school. 
  • Provide instructiont that is appropriate for the learning styles of all students.
