Renewing Your Teaching License
All Teaching License* are on a 5-year cycle and require steps for renewal during April 1-June 30. For all renewal details, visit the Illinois State Board of Education Renewal and Reinstatement site.
Substitute Teacher License (SUB)
- Renew licence with the State of Illinois through your ELIS account. There is a $50 fee. View full instructions HERE.
- You will receive a letter from the ROE #45 the month prior to your license renewal due date. This letter will provide instructions on how to renew your spot on the ROE #45 Master Substitute Teacher List. This list keeps you in good standing as an available substitute teacher in the #45 Region and provide school districts with your up-to-date contact information. There is a $25 fee payable to the ROE to renew your Sub Auth for another 5 years. This fee is separate than the $50 license renewal fee you pay through your ELIS account.

Short-Term Substitute Teacher License (STS)
- *STS License are not renewable through the State of Illinois at this time.
- No Professional Development hours required.
Paraprofessional License (PARA)
- Renew licence with the State of Illinois through your ELIS account. There is a $25 fee. View full instructions HERE.

Professional Educator License (PEL) or Career and Technical Educator (CTE) License
- Renew licence with the State of Illinois through your ELIS account. There is a $50 fee. View full instructions HERE.
